Washington State voters, with only three mainly-urban counties around Seattle bucking the tide, appeared to soundly reject a ballot initiative that would have required labeling for foods with genetically modified ingredients (with a variety of exceptions), according to the state's election Web site. The map above is from the state Office of the Secretary of State. There's more from CNN and USA Today. Industry heavily outspent backers of the labeling initiative, but the measure was also opposed by many newspapers, including the Seattle Times and Olympian.
On Twitter, track #YESon522 and #NOon522 to see how the debate played out.
But, given that only 25 percent of registered voters voted,* it's clear this was not an issue that energized most people either way.
